PSOB Improvement Act Passed Through Senate Judiciary Committee

On March 9, 2017, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved the Public Safety Officers’ Benefits Improvement (PSOB) Act (S. 419).  This bill addresses issues of transparency and timelines within the PSOB program.  The bill will help ensure the protection of survivors, disabled officers and their families when it comes to getting the benefits they deserve.

This is the first step towards getting the bill passed through the House and Senate.  If passed, this bill would ensure children of fallen or disabled officers would be eligible for education benefits.  The PSOB program would be required to put out weekly and biannual reports on the status of their claims, improving on their transparency.
