IAEP Among First Responders in Oregon Shooting

IAEP Local R12-307 located in Douglas County, Oregon were among the first responders to a call regarding an active shooter on a community college campus last week. The shooter who has been identified as a 26 year old male and fellow student at Umpqua Community College. The shooter managed to kill 10 individuals while wounding several others before being subdued by local authorities. The suspect later died from his injuries.

IAEP Local R12-307 is a small local, comprised of about 30 members, many of whom showed up moments after the last shots were fired. IAEP Director Phil Petit commented, “I can’t imagine what was going through our member’s heads when they got the call. The amount of bravery displayed by these EMTs is astonishing, these first responders are truly heroes.”
IAEP locals routinely respond to calls where they are on the scene before police, luckily this was not the circumstance this time. The prayers of everyone at NAGE/IAEP go out to the families of those who were involved. Please check IAEP.org for updates on this matter.
