People in Tiverton, Rhode Island are no doubt grateful to see the members of IBPO Local 406 patrolling their streets, but during the holidays, many are even more grateful for the outstanding work they do supporting the food pantry at the East Bay Community Action Program.
“We’ve been doing this for four years now,” said Ofc. James McGuinness-Rossi, president of IBPO Local 406. “We find giving directly to the food bank works better than giving gift baskets; with the money we raise for the food pantry, we can reach more people.”
The members of IBPO Local 406 take the proceeds of their annual fundraiser to help the East Bay Community Program. This year, the local donated $1,000 worth of food to the pantry, thanks in part to help from Stop & Shop.
“Knowing we can directly help the members of our community casts a positive light on everybody, the police, firefighters, social services, everyone,” said McGuinness-Rossi. He gave special thanks to Sgt. James Costa, the local member who spearheads the drive each year and works with the program and police to ensure its success.
Representatives for the Community Action Program told local media that the donations they receive from Tiverton’s first responders will go a long way in helping them assist the estimated 350 families they expect to serve this year.
