Kingston (Mass.) Local Creates Stir with Flier

April 10, 2008

Members of IBPO Local 436 in Kingston, Massachusetts locked in a dispute with their chief have caused quite a stir with a flier urging local voters to question police expenditures.

Officers say the town is under-patrolled because Chief Joseph Rebello has hired too many supervisors, who are not required to patrol, and given then unlimited overtime. The chief is also under fire for two active cases against him and the department at the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. Copies of the flier made their way to local voters at a recent town meeting—and to a reporter at the Patriot Ledger.

Local 436 members have been without a contract since June 2007.
